Housing Choice Voucher Program

Program Description

The Housing Choice Voucher Program, also know as Section 8, is a program funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and administered by the Housing Authority of the Township of Irvington.  This program assists "very low" income families, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities to pay their rent.  Participants are responsible for an affordable portion of their rent based on their income and the balance is paid directly to the owner by the Irvington Housing Authority.

The participant is responsible for locating a suitable unit and a rental owner who is willing to rent their unit to them.  The unit may be a house, townhouse, condominium or apartment.  Before a unit may be subsidized, it must meet HUD's Housing Quality Standards (HQS) Inspection as well as the Township's Certificate of Habitability (C of H) Inspection.
